General Description Imaco is a medicine containing an active substance called imatinib. This medicine works by inhibiting the growth of abnormal cells in the diseases listed below. These include some types of cancer._x000D_
During treatment with imatinib, tell your doctor straight away if you put on weight very quickly. Imatinib may cause your body to retain water (severe fluid retention). -While you are taking imatinib, your doctor will regularly check whether the medicine is working. You will also have blood tests and be weighed regularly. -Some children and adolescents taking imatinib may have slower than normal growth. The doctor will monitor the growth at regular visits.
Side Effects Very common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people) or common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): Abdominal pain, appetite changes, arthralgia, ascites, conjunctivitis, constipation, cough, cramps, diarrhea, dizziness, dry eyes, dry mouth, dry skin, dyspnea, epistaxis, fatigue, flatulence, flushing, gastro-oesophageal reflux, haemorrhage, Headache, hypoaesthesia, increased lacrimation, influenza-like symptoms, insomnia, oedema, paraesthesia, photosensitivity, pleural effusion, pruritus, pulmonary oedema, rash, sweating, taste disturbance, visual disturbances, weight changes. Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): Acute respiratory failure, anxiety, cold extremities, cough, depression, drowsiness, dysphagia,electrolyte disturbances, gastric ulceration, gout, gynaecomastia, haematoma, hearing loss, heart failure, hepatic dysfunction, hepatitis, hypertension, hypotension, impaired memory, irregular menstruation, menorrhagia, migraine, palpitation, pancreatitis, peripheral neuropathy, renal failure, sexual dysfunction, skin hyperpigmentation, syncope, tachycardia, tinnitus, tremor, urinary frequency, vertigo. Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): Angina, angioedema, arrhythmia, aseptic necrosis of bone, atrial fibrillation, cataract, confusion, convulsions, exfoliative dermatitis, gastro-intestinal perforation, glaucoma, haemolytic anaemia, hepatic failure, hepatic failure, hepatic Necrosis, increased intracranial pressure, inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal obstruction, myocardial infarction, myopathy, pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary Hypertension, rhabdomyolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Frequency not known: Alopecia, bone-marrow suppression, drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic growth retardation in children, hepatitis B reactivation, hyperuricaemia, nausea, oral mucositis, thromboembolism, tumour lysis syndrome, vomiting.
Direction of use Use in adults Your doctor will tell you exactly how many tablets of Imaco® to take. If you are being treated for CML: 400 mg once daily, increased if necessary up to 800 mg daily in 2 divided doses a day. If you are being treated for GIST: 400 mg once daily. If you are being treated for ALL: 600 mg once daily. If you are being treated for MDS/MPD: 400 mg once daily. If you are being treated for HES/CEL: 100 – 400 mg once daily. If you are being treated for DFSP: 800 mg daily in 2 divided doses. Use in children and adolescents The doctor will tell you how many tablets of Imaco® to give to your child. The amount of Imaco® given will depend on your child’s condition, body weight and height (340mg/m²/day). The total daily dose in children must not exceed 600 mg with CML and Ph+ALL.
